However, Airbus quickly succumbed to the same complacency it once challenged, and Boeing regained its precarious place on top. Open nationalist hostility between German and French nfwhouse engineers, a hectic rush to rewire new airplanes by hand and redesign substantial parts on the fly, a stock-trading scandal involving former chief executive Noel Forgeard — these events consumed the attention of the industry and its millions boeinh interested observers most of last year.
Good Read, Book felt like an insider information. And the French-German tussle for control of Airbus is handled in antiseptic terms that do not match up to the monumental egos and nationalistic maneuvering involved. Would have made a great 2 part series in the business section. This book does a boekng job of highlighting the behind-the-scenes perspective of Boeing and Airbus.
Anyhow, I didn’t enjoy this book very much. I found the structure of the book, where each chapter is based on a business or management theme, very hard to follow as each chapter covered the same years from a different perspective and events that were referred to in the early chapters were only explained in later chapters.
There are passages when Newhouse shows a flair for storytelling. Aug 31, K C rated it it was ok. The battle between Boeing and Airbus is important and dramatic.
Sadly, I found it lacking and suspect that this book is merely an extension of a more comprehensive book by the author neahouse the airline industry, The Sporty Game, which I have not read.
The book has a lot of details about the two companies, their operations, jonn style and how all of this fares them against one another. While this isn’t necessarily a pro-US or private industry bent, it can be seen that way without little imagination.
Had Newhouse concentrated on finding such stories on his own, he might have much better informed the reader about the current state of events. See all books by John Newhouse. Generally speaking, this book With the on-going drama between the two companies, it really is a shame this book was published when it was.

Good, factually based, easy to read, able to call both Newnouse and Airbus on their failings, although it does seem slightly biased towards Boeing although as a fan of Boeing, I can’t really object, only observe. It is indeed interesting to read this book published in in since many of the predictions and bets of these two manufactures have come to pass in certain ways.
The converging, then ajrbus, flight paths of the two companies makes their battle for supremacy one of the great business stories of our times.
